On Friday 7th
December Somervale held its first ‘Options Day’ for Year 9. The day
involved Year 9 pupils, in their tutor groups, going round to different
workshops, each period, run by groups from outside the school. The
workshops were run by Bristol University, Bath Spa University,
University of the West of England and Norton
Radstock College, each of them doing activities and talking to
pupils about different types of careers and further education routes
available to them when they leave school. Pupils also had a go on
‘Plan-it’, a computer program helping pupils plan what they want to do
in the future and how they are going to get there. At lunchtime
Sergeant Phil Higgins came in
to talk to pupils interested about joining the army.
Overall, the workshops went
well and both pupils and the visiting staff enjoyed the day.
