Somervale School maintains a strong commitment to special educational needs. Additional support is provided for all students with learning or social needs to enable them to achieve their full potential in school.
A team of well qualified, experienced staff offer specialist support to ensure all students become confident, independent learners. For the majority, support is provided for reading and writing and those learning skills necessary to achieve in all subjects. Individual mentoring and support for social needs is also a great strength of the team.
Our special needs suite is a warm, welcoming environment. Students can use interactive ICT facilities to ensure high-quality, individualised learning. Daily lunchtime clubs also offer support with homework and social needs.
All students with special needs have an Individual Education Plan, involving regular monitoring and review. External professional agencies are invited into school to support individual needs and regular liaison with parents or carers is encouraged to ensure successful progress.
Our approach to special needs support has been highly regarded by both Ofsted and HMI. With support, many of our students achieve very commendable standards in their external examinations. Gifted and talented students
